This post is 100% because of the work my Mom has put into making the little places around my house gorgeous!  She has put so much heart into her flower pots and I just had to share her beautiful creations.  I hope her green thumb runs in the family!

Study Tips

IMG_91637001C89F-1

As finals and exams are coming just around the corner, I have found myself spending more and more time studying.  By my last year in high school, I believe I have found some great ways to study that not only work for me, but could apply to any studying situation.

IMG_9793

ONE// Start Studying Early

There’s nothing worse than cramming for a test.  Yes, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures, however if you let it come to cramming for every test, you are going to end up being more stressed out and frantic.  If you know you have a big test coming up, studying a little bit every night will help more than you realize.

IMG_9800

TWO// Study Harder Not Longer

Sometimes it is worse to study in a distracting setting for three hours than it would have been to just sit down and study hard for half an hour.  It can be amazing how much you are able to learn in just a short period of time when you are completely focused on that one thing you are trying to learn.

IMG_9795

THREE// Stay Organized

Organization can be the biggest help in studying.  If all your notes are organized you know exactly what you need to study.  Also, if you keep your schedule organized you will stay aware of important dates coming up so tests and exams can’t creep up on you.

FOUR// Take Breaks

You don’t want to fry your brain with four hours straight studying.  I try to set up rewards for myself at different intervals.  For example after every thirty minutes of studying I let myself get up, check my phone, and take a break for the next ten minutes before getting back to studying.  Sometimes those little breaks can help a lot

IMG_9796

FIVE// Move Around

According to research, you are more likely to forget information if you only study it in one location.  So take your notes away from your desk and go outside or try another area of your house or a local coffee shop to get the information to stick better.

Studying can be the hardest and most stressful part of school if you let it.  So take these tips and develop your own study habits to keep your grades up with as little stress as possible!

Movie Recommendations

Image-1.jpg.jpegI love movies!  In fact, at one point in my life I wanted to be a movie director!  Since then I have developed different goals, but my love for movies still remains!  I have rounded up a few of my movie recommendations in the hopes that you all can share in my love for them!

Children’s: Frozen

Frozen-blogDisney knocked it out of the park with this movie.  The songs are amazing and so are the characters!! I could watch this movie once a week!

Recent: Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast-Blog.jpgBelle has always been my favorite Disney princess and I absolutely love Emma Watson so you can imagine my excitement in finding out she would be playing my favorite princess!  Plus Josh Gad is in it, the actor who voices Olaf in Frozen, which ties back to my love of Frozen. This movie truly was a win-win!

Romantic Comedy: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

How to Lose a Guy-Blog.jpgI don’t watch Rom-Coms frequently, however this is one I love!  The movie is absolutely hilarious and no matter how many times I have seen it I still laugh out loud!

Comedy: Dumb and Dumber

Dumb and Dumber-Blog.jpgIf you know me, then you know my love for this movie.  It is probably the most quoted movie in my family and I am not ashamed of that.  In my opinion, this movie never gets old.

Action: Jason Bourne

Jason Bourne.jpgYes, all of these movies tend to follow the same general formula but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good!  All the action and excitement make these movies so fun to watch!!

Mystery: Rear Window

Rear Window-BlogThis classic mystery is a great movie for a rainy day.  The action comes at the end but the whole time you can’t help but get completely engrossed in the mystery of the situation.  I would definitely recommend it!

Most of the time I stick to watching movies I’ve already seen before but I love seeing new movies so please comment some of your favorites!!

Lasts

I have had a busy week.  After sending my deposit into Centre College, it hit me that I was actually going to college.  I know I’m ready to move on, but every time something happens for the last time, a wave of sadness washes over me.

A month ago, I attended my last speech tournament.  Speech has been one of the biggest parts of my life for the past four years and it’s so sad to see it end.  I have been on two different speech teams and have made my mark on both the Kentucky High School Speech League as well as the Ohio High School Speech League.  While I won’t be continuing speech in college, I know that I am a more confident person because of speech.

Seeing speech end was sad, but what really prompted me to write about “lasts” was because last night I performed for the last time on the Bay High School stage with my amazing friends.  I’ve only lived here two years and have only been a part of the theater department for two years but it feels like I’ve been with these people my whole life.  I have never seen a group of people quite as amazing as them and I know I will never experience anything quite like it.  Yes, I plan on pursuing theatre in college, however I know it won’t be the same.  I am so thankful for these people and the opportunity to have performed with them for two years.

Being a senior in high school is amazing.  But it does come with some hard, ending moments.  However, with ever last moment, I know there will be an amazing new first experience in college.  These bittersweet moments are going to continue all through the rest of the school year and summer and that’s okay.  All it means is I will have so many exciting moments in the years to come.

Managing Stress

Stress is very real and too much of it can be detrimental.  It used to be difficult for me to manage stress and a busy life but recently I have been able to deal with it in a way that I still manage to get everything done without letting life get too overwhelming.  Here are some of the tricks I have learned that will hopefully be applicable to any stressful situation you come across!

1. Make Lists

Sometimes just putting things down on paper can reduce some of the stress.  Making lists can make the tasks at hand appear a lot more manageable.  Plus you have the added bonus of getting that sweet feeling of satisfaction after checking off something on the list.

2. Go for a Walk

IMG_9727

The exercise and outdoors can do wonders for the mind and body.  Take your pet or some good music and go for a stroll around the block.  I can assure you, you will come back feeling refreshed and ready to tackle that to-do list.

3. Take a Creative Break

IMG_9646.JPG

Everyone needs an outlet and sometimes it is in times of immense stress that a creative outlet comes in the most handy.  I love to play guitar or piano but if instruments aren’t your forte, there are plenty of other activities to rest the brain while engaging it in other activities such as baking, hand-lettering, drawing, painting, etc!

4. Get Things Done Early

This tip is more useful for avoiding stress than dealing with it but I think it’s still worthwhile to mention.  Procrastination can be so easy, especially with social media and Netflix to keep you entertained for hours at a time.  However, there are too many benefits to just getting the work done early giving you plenty of time to binge watch without the guilt of unfinished tasks hanging over your head.

5. Sleep

Yes, it can be so easy to stay up ridiculously late to finish everything you have to get done.  However, the effects of that sleep loss can be worse than not getting everything done.  Sometimes the best thing to do is to put the work down and go to bed.  Then you will be able to wake up and feel refreshed and ready to tackle anything the day throws at you!

No, I am not an expert on stress-management and yes, sometimes I don’t take my own advice.  But I am working to manage the stress that is in my life and these five things have helped me get to be a second semester high school senior with minimal stress and a happy attitude.  Comment some of your own stress-management techniques!

March Favorites

March Favorites Cover Picture.jpg

Winter is in full swing and I am not digging the cold weather.  However, I have found some great products to reduce the depressing aspects of winter and to keep me cozy and comfy while patiently waiting for spring to come.

1. A Robe

Never underestimate the power of a good robe!  I just received one as a birthday present and I am OBSESSED!  I love having something warm and cozy to put on in the morning.  Mine is by Ugg and although it may appear to be slightly more costly than your average bathrobe it is well worth the money!

2. Bean Boots

I’ve written about these before (you can find the post here) but their greatness is worth praising again!  These boots can withstand snow, rain, sleet, cold weather, you name it!  I know these shoes have been around forever but they are still very cute and in style and I’m absolutely in love!

3. Hempz lotion

I know I can’t be alone in the horrors of dry skin in the winter so lotion is always a must.  I love Hempz because it smells good but doesn’t leave your hands greasy right after you put the lotion on so you’re free use your hands without being hindered by the grease of regular lotion.

4. Blanket Scarf

I did not understand the full awesomeness of the blanket scarf until my brother got one for me for Christmas.  Ever since then, I have been obsessed!!  It goes with absolutely everything and is the warmest and most comfortable accessory you can pair with everything.  Plus mine is from Amazon so if you have Prime there is free shipping and it is not expensive at all! I honestly don’t know what I was thinking by not owning one sooner.

It’s only early March and I’m already for spring and then summer.  Luckily I have these amazing products to keep me comfortable and able to tolerate the early March atmosphere.

Spring in February

img_5d94c8c5f967-1

With the lovely weather we have had this weekend, I couldn’t help taking advantage of all the outdoor activities!  It started with going on a walk to the beach at sunset with my sister and her friend and ended with taking my dog on a walk to the same beach but when there was a little more light out.  Yes, the crazy changes in the weather are probably going to make everyone sick…but for now it feels great!!img_9696img_9680img_9682img_9703img_7226img_7225img_7224
